I don't really have anything better to do.
The Isreal - Gaza conflict refers to a series of battles between the Palestinian militants and the Isreal Defense Forces (IDF) that began in mid-May 2007(wiki). The back and forth fighting between Isreal and the Palestinians have been going on for a long time, but the initial trigger for this conflict was due to terrorist cells(Hamas, Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine) launching rockets into Isreal, which led to Isreal launching attacks against Gaza, an area that is currently being controlled by the terrorist group Hamas.
It actually sounds quite funny to me that people are crying foul over the fact that Isreal is attacking Gaza when the Isrealis are merely retaliating against a terrorist group that has been firing rockets at and into the homes of its citizens. If the Hamas/Gaza is so worried about having bloodshed then why don't they just stop launching rockets into Isreal? It seems to me that many media groups are painting an extremely biased picture of the current conflict.
Anyway that's it for the conflict between Gaza and Isreal, let me get on to bigger stuff. The conflict between Palestinians and Isrealis. Just FYI, the people of Gaza are Palestinians, and Palestinians don't like the Isrealis, there's some history on this. If you don't know anything about this issue you would probably want to stop reading now, but if you do know, or your interested in learning more than please continue. The Isreal/Palestine or Jew/Arab problem originally started somewhere in the 1948.
Lets have a history lesson for awhile. From 1917 to 1947 the region of Palestine was occupied by the British. The British had taken control of the area from the Ottomon Turks in 1917. Somewhere around 1947, the United Nations voted to divide western Palestine into seperate Jewish and Arab states. (This happened in the United Nations resolution 181), The Jews agreed, the Arabs did not. The Arab countries then proceeded to attack Isreal and urged the Palestines/Arabs to leave the country(This was also known as the War of Independence for Isreal), there was 5 or 6 Arab countries attacking Isreal. This created a situation where the Arabs who had left Isreal became refugees. It's interesting to note that although there were Arab refugees who had left Isreal, there were also many Jewish refugees who came from Arab countries. The official number of Jewish refugees, according to wiki is 856,000 and 600,000 of them resettled in Isreal and most of them have been absorbed into whichever culture/country that they have gone to. Whereas the Arab refugees, numbering around 520,000 (Israeli sources) to 726,000 (UN sources), considerably less, which begs the question of why they were not absorbed into the Arab countries, which are several hundreds of times larger than Isreal. The refugee problem has multiplied throughout the years... literally, as the current refugees are most likely 2nd and 3rd generation refugees who number in the millions.
to be continued....
